Two years ago, I spent the first round of the NCAA tourney with my dad and 5 ex college buddies.  It was an amazing experience and making the start of this first tourney without him pretty odd.  Also, spring is unpredictable so when you get snowed in, try this workout.  Kudos to people asking for accountability and saying goodbye to a climber who helped shaped the sport.

Jeffrey James Binney is a comedian, actor, and now, ultra runner.  Why does he intend on living in a bus?  How was his complete failure more stressful than usual at the Leadville 100?  Did he ever finish an ultra?  Plus, some bonus content featuring parts of his comedy special from the experiences.

Our guest shares his story of how he made a career working with athletes and then we dive in to his new project, a book to help everyone become more efficient athletes.

About our guest:

Internationally acclaimed strength and conditioning specialist Clive Brewer is the assistant director of high performance for the Toronto Blue Jays and has consulted with several other organizations around the globe, such as Manchester United FC and USA Football.

Before athletes can become strong and powerful, they need to master the movement skills required in sport. Athletic Movement Skills covers the underlying science and offers the prescriptive advice on bridging the gap between scientist and practitioner so coaches and athletes can work together to achieve dominance.

In Athletic Movement Skills, Brewer shares his high level of expertise drawn from the most current sport science research and champion-producing applications. Knowing the need for good technique in skills such as jumping, landing, accelerating, decelerating, and changing direction, Brewer includes hundreds of photos and illustrations to provide strong visual presentation of exercise progressions for developing jumping and plyometric skills, running speed and agility skills, and functional strength. Real-life examples and case studies across a spectrum of sports will help readers understand and apply information to achieve their athletic objectives.

Our guest played college basketball and modeled as a young athlete for some of the biggest brands in the world.  An invite to a boxing gym, that he actually hated, spurned the athlete he is now.

We talk a lot about how to control and regulate emotion and adrenaline in sport from visualization to practicing the mental game.  He gives a great plank challenge for anyone to try out too.

Tons of energy, tons of passion.

Enjoy the show!

Tina decided that this just wasn't for her and lucky for us, she figured it out after the first episode of the show.  Luckily, one of our other finalists was still very interested in Becoming Ultra, so, we introduce her on today's show. Becoming Ultra follows the journey to becoming an ultra runner from day one of training!

To be able to listen to someone at the top of their respective sport give advice as to what is helping them succeed and to be able to apply it to anyone at any level is what the Athlete On Fire show is all about.  We have done this very well on today's show.  Whether it's a mental or physical concept, every athlete will be able to take away something interesting to apply to themselves.

How does he approach running the Grand Canyon?  Why did he finish the race after taking a wrong turn at mile 92?  What drives him? What is his race strategy coming from high altitude?  What mental tricks does he use when competing?

Enjoy the show!
