Athlete On Fire (general)

Chris Stoutenburg leaned back on a railing when he was 20 years old and fell two stories, landing on his arm on a patch of grass the size of his body.  It was a lucky fall and the beginning of his story on the show. He went on to travel the world and win multiple championship for Team Canada in wheelchair basketball, co-founded a successful Cross Fit box and founded WheelWod.com.  An inspiring story that reinforces that we are not our circumstances, we are how we react to them.

Morgan Tilton decided to run ultra after ultra one summer after catching the "bug". She just happens to also be a freelance writer who has written for Backpacker, Outside, and Men's Journal to name a few.  She shares her creative process and some basic guidelines we should all follow when writing.  She shares her training regimen and her crazy year of running. Also, tons of travel.  From Italy to the Copper Canyon of Mexico.  This show is for adventurers!

Enjoy!

It's true.  We are all gonna die.  What we do before that is our own fault. So, a little pep talk from the host with some examples you may be able to relate to.  Also, new rules for some of the shows we share on the feed.  And, a shout out to a very important person from Athlete On Fire!

Things we didn't realize.

  • There is repellant for sea lice, larva of jellyfish
  • Painting stripes on your legs can deter big sharks
  • People swim around Manhattan

Of course, there is much more to the world of open water swimming but these facts jumped out at us.  What does it take to prepare for such events?  What are the rules?  So much to learn about this unique sport on the show today!

We all do this as runner’s.  Check our pace too often thinking about the impending cut offs for a race 6 months away. It’s basic human nature.  We don’t want to fail.  On today’s show, why you need to trust the training and remember that all of the base training IS going to make you faster.  Enjoy the show!

Noah Kaufman is no stranger to pressure.  Competitively he has excelled as a ninja on the popular American Ninja Warrior in front of millions.  He has been scaling rocks as a climber for over twenty years where the risk and the reward is a very real thing.  Professionally, he works as an ER doctor in Fort Collins, Colorado.  He finds a way to mesh everything together to bring you great perspective on the show today.

Two years ago, I spent the first round of the NCAA tourney with my dad and 5 ex college buddies.  It was an amazing experience and making the start of this first tourney without him pretty odd.  Also, spring is unpredictable so when you get snowed in, try this workout.  Kudos to people asking for accountability and saying goodbye to a climber who helped shaped the sport.
