Athlete On Fire (so this is fitness)

Often times, in life, we think we know what we're in for...only to find out we didn't really get it. Well, this is one of those times I was 100% shown that I simply did not get it ahead of time. This past weekend Megan and I ventured up to Millinocket, Maine for the Millinocket Marathon...and while I totally thought I had a handle on what was going on...I was dead wrong.

Every once in a while it's important to get away, have a little fun, and spend some time with those you love. This weekend, that happened to coincide with the opportunity to run a marathon and do some good for a town that needed it!

It's one of the weirdest team-ups out there...but for some reason beer (well, alcohol in general) and fitness seem to go together just like peanut butter & jelly.

Every once in a while the universe has to remind us that yes, we do in fact live in the real world. There are rules you play by, things you do and do not do. Even if you can achieve something as incredible as a 100 mile endurance run finish...a half-marathon can still take you down under the right circumstances (i.e. if you’re being stupid). Simple rules do still apply - they are, after all, RULES.

It's funny to think how one decision, one feeling, can change the course of your life. 


When you're staring down your first 100 mile ultramarathon, and it's less than 48 hours tend to reflect on what you're about to do and, you got here in the first place.

Things don't always go according to plan...when the ceiling comes crashing down on you, it can be tough to find the drive to keep on plowing forward and sticking to the plan. When conditions are less than ideal, it's up to us to hunker down, toughen up, and make up the difference from within ourselves. So THIS Is Fitness:08 - The Struggle Is Real

Fitness is hard. Life is hard. Why does everything have to be so hard? Often we want to shed the stuff that’s harder than we feel like it has to be. And often, the thing that’s easiest to health and fitness. The gym membership. The running. The whatever. We make things harder than they have to be. We give in.


That struggle is what keeps us from achieving the greatness we’re all capable of, and it’s up to us to find a way to break through. Darrell talks about his own struggle, how this stuff happens, and what, ultimately, it’s gonna come down to to bust out and make it happen.

STIF:07 - You Can Lead A Horse To Water...

Even if you’re a fitness fanatic, or had that epiphany and “found fitness” can be tough to get those you care about to have that same kind of “awakening”. It can be frustrating, saddening, and even cause a little anger and resentment when friends and loved ones just refuse to do something you KNOW will be beneficial for them, and that they might even enjoy! So how do you get those YOU care about to the same place? You might not like the answer…
